‘Elderly’ kayakers rescued from Spokane River

Two kayakers were rescued Friday after overturning in the Spokane River between Flora and Sullivan Roads.

The Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to the incident and found two people on the north shore of the river. The couple, described as “elderly” in the SVFD news release, had overturned their kayaks and then proceeded to swim to shore. They sustained minor injuries and reported slight hypothermia.

Both kayakers are expected to fully recover.

The SVFD reminds residents that the Spokane River is flowing fast and is still very cold.
