The FBI has arrested a man they believe shot a customer during a robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank at 7404 N. Division St. in April.

Don Charles Owens was identified by DNA left at the bank, said Christian Parker, a senior resident agent with the FBI in Spokane.

“It was in the stocking cap the customer ripped off,” Parker said.

The robber ordered everyone in the bank on their knees. The customer, identified as L.M. in court documents, said he didn’t believe the robber was armed and tackled him. The robber shot him twice, and the customer tore off the robber’s mask in the scuffle.

Owens has an extensive criminal history that includes six felonies and 19 misdemeanors. He is currently on probation and was wanted on a Department of Corrections warrant for escape from community custody at the time of his arrest in Edmonds, Washington, on Wednesday.

Parker said Owens will be returned to Spokane for trial. He has been charged with bank robbery and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
