Hiker dies in fall at Columbia River Gorge

Associated Press

PORTLAND – Authorities say a hiker died after falling from a trail in the Columbia River Gorge east of Portland.

A witness saw the man fell from a 40-foot cliff while hiking Friday at Angel’s Rest. When a rope rescue team reached the man, he was dead.

Capt. Steve Alexander of the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office says the victim is not the missing Texas hiker who went missing Thursday from a trail a few miles east of Angel’s Rest.

The deceased man is in his 30s. Authorities will release his name after relatives are notified.
