Police: Lynnwood officer fatally shoots man during struggle

Associated Press

EVERETT – Authorities said a Lynnwood police officer fatally shot a suspect after the man reportedly tried to grab the officer’s gun during a struggle in Everett.

A spokeswoman for the Snohomish County team that investigates police use of deadly force said the 44-year-old man died at the scene late Saturday.

Shari Ireton said Lynnwood officers were looking for the man after a woman called 911 to report that her boyfriend threatened to kill her. Ireton said he was also wanted on a felony escape warrant from the Department of Corrections.

Officers went to the man’s home but he fled. He was later spotted by Lynnwood officers.

Ireton said three officers were trying to take him into custody when he struggled with one officer and tried to grab his gun.

The male officer who shot the man has been with the department for four years.
