Indians win, grab first-half North Division title on last day
The Spokane Indians took care of business Monday night and got the help they needed en route to the Northwest League North Division first-half title.
The Indians (19-19) rode the arms of Tyler Phillips (2-3) and Johan Juan to a 4-2 victory over the Boise Hawks (16-22) in Boise.
Spokane’s victory and the Hillsboro Hops’ 3-0 road win over the Tri-City Dust Devils (19-19) gave the Indians the title by virtue of Spokane winning 2 of 3 games against Tri-City so far this season.
Preston Scott and Charles Leblanc each had three hits for Spokane, while Blaine Prescott, Seth Spivey and Carlos Garay each drove in a run.
Darius Day scored twice for the Indians.
Phillips allowed just three hits and one earned run in five innings with six strikeouts and three walks. Juan fired four shutout innings in relief to notch his third save. He fanned three with one walk.
