ABBOTT, Mary Helen (Wunder)
(Age 94)

Passed away Friday March 25, 2016 at Valley View Nursing and Rehab- ilitation in Boise, Idaho.

She was born January 16, 1922 at Bison, South Dakota.

She was the ninth of ten children born to Nicholas and Mary Wunder.

Mary graduated from high school in 1939 and left the family farm for Detroit, MI.

During WWII she worked there in a defense plant to support the war effort.

Later, she and lifelong friend Dallas Preszler moved to Arizona where they both worked as telephone operators.

In 1948 Mary moved to Spokane, WA and began work with Safeway Stores, Inc., a career that would span 36 years.

In May, 1950 Mary married Ernie Abbott.

Together they raised one son, Paul.


Mary enjoyed bowling, flower and vegetable gardening and fishing on Pend Oreille Lake with Ernie.

The fruits of these activities were shared generously with friends and family.

In retirement Mary remained close to her Safeway family for 30 years.
Within two years of Ernie’s death in 2005, Mary moved to a retirement facility in Spokane.

She made many new friends and took part in a variety of social activities there.

In 2014 Mary moved to Boise, ID to spend her final years close to Paul and Deb.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings and her husband.

She is survived by her son Paul (Debra) Abbott of Kuna, Idaho and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 2:00 pm, at Heritage Funeral Home in Spokane, WA.
