Man pleads not guilty to pointing crossbow at ex-girlfriend
BOISE – A Jerome man whose first-degree murder conviction was overturned after more than 30 years is denying allegations he broke into his former girlfriend’s house and pointed a crossbow at her.
KTVB-TV reported that 56-year-old Jaime Dean Charboneau pleaded not guilty Wednesday to burglary, aggravated assault and a weapons enhancement.
Prosecutors say Charboneau had been out of prison less than nine months when his former girlfriend on Feb. 15 found him hiding in a closet of her southwest Idaho home and pointing a crossbow at her.
In May 2015, Charboneau was released from prison after a judge vacated his 1985 conviction for the killing of Marilyn Arbaugh, his ex-wife, in Jerome County. He said the shooting was in self-defense, and he has been granted a new trial.
