Two dead, 3-year-old injured in Pend Oreille County car accident

Two people are dead and a 3-year-old girl is in the hospital following a car accident in Pend Oreille County Wednesday night.

Andrea Vistana Heinen, 21, of Usk, and an unidentified female died as a result of the accident, which occurred just before 11 p.m. The 3-year-old, Rosalia Bowman of Usk, was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, a news release from the Washington State Patrol said.

Heinen was driving a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder south on River Road near Cusisk when the car crossed the center line and rolled down an embankment and into the Pend Oreille River. All three occupants were thrown from the vehicle. Heinen died at the scene. The unidentified female was airlifted to Sacred Heart but died at the hospital.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the accident. It is not clear whether drugs or alcohol was a factor.
