Gonzaga limited visiting San Diego to just seven field goals in the second half of its 79-43 win on Thursday.

“The first half was really good, the second half was just outstanding,” coach Mark Few said of the defense. “We took Tuesday off because of this crazy schedule we’re on so we had one day prep for a complicated offense. It’s not one you see every day.

The guys did a really good job absorbing it and putting it together on the floor.”

San Diego sophomore guard Olin Carter III, who had 10 points in the first 5-plus minutes, finished with 12. Silas Melson entered the game and was assigned to Carter, but he wasn’t alone as the Zags constantly switched on San Diego’s screens.

“I think everybody had their shot at him,” Few said.

San Diego’s 43 points matched Akron for the season-low by a Zag opponent. GU is giving up 58.9 points in WCC contests.
