A man was stabbed during a fight Saturday morning at Howard Street and Riverside Avenue in downtown Spokane.

Police were called for a fight around 11:15 a.m., said police Lt. Alan Arnzen. When they arrived, they discovered that bystanders had broken up the fight and detained the suspect, he said.

The wounded man had a life-threatening stab wound to his chest, Arnzen said. Police are hoping to recover surveillance video from nearby businesses, including the Bank of America, to determine what happened.

“As to who caused the fight or why, I don’t know yet,” he said.

Police are also interviewing multiple witnesses. The identity of the suspect has not yet been released.
