Nine Mile Falls resident dies at hospital after crash on state Highway 291

From staff reports

One of the two men injured in a Stevens County car crash Monday afternoon has died.

Nine Mile Falls resident Robert L. Tilley, 66, died at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he was taken by helicopter after the crash along with passenger Michael B. Wilson, 63, of Ocean Shores, Washington, the Washington State Patorl reported.

Tilley was driving a 2015 Chevy Camaro on state Route 291 and attempted to pass multiple cars in a no-passing zone along a curve 15 miles north of Spokane about 3:15 p.m., WSP said in a news release. The Camaro steered off the road, crashed and rolled several times before stopping about 50 feet off the roadway.

Tilley was not wearing a seat belt, according to the WSP report. Wilson was wearing a seat belt.

The WSP had previously said that drugs or alcohol likely were a factor in the crash and that a charge of vehicular assault would be pursued against Tilley.
