Idaho city officials examine legality of floating playground
COEUR D’ALENE – A floating playground in Coeur d’Alene Lake has city officials questioning its legality.
The Coeur d’Alene Press reported Clint Kauer built the playground and placed it about a week ago near Coeur d’Alene’s beachfront.
Officials have received many complaints about the playground and are trying to figure out how it fits into local ordinances and state laws. It is designated as a watercraft.
The city’s jurisdiction is within 1,000 feet of its shore and if someone wants to do business within those limits, they likely fall under the city’s permitting process.
Kauer called the playground “Hooligan Island.” Another playground of his is on Lake Havasu in Arizona.
Kauer said he plans to move his creation at the request of the city, but is open to moving it back.
