Vince Grippi’s three takes: Washington State’s offense does just enough to back up high-flying defensive performance

If you questioned whether Washington State could win a road game when the offense is sputtering, your query was answered in Salt Lake City on Saturday.

But only if the caveat is the defense, which goes by #SpeedD, forces seven turnovers.

Those extra chances allowed the Cougars to score 23 points, which, with a final score of 33-25, seems very important.

Falk breaks Pac-12 record for career touchdowns

SALT LAKE CITY – Luke Falk broke the Pac-12 Conference record for career touchdowns in his home state, against one of the local programs that decided the Washington State quarterback wasn’t worth a scholarship offer.

Falk, who grew up in Logan, Utah, approximately 80 miles north of Rice-Eccles Stadium, tossed the 117th touchdown of his career in the second quarter of Saturday’s game against the Utah Utes. Kyle Sweet caught the record-breaking touchdown, a short 1-yarder with 3:02 left in the half at Rice-Eccles Stadium. It gave the Cougars a 20-10 lead. | READ MORE »

WSU gets LB Isaac Dotson back

SALT LAKE CITY – Washington State middle linebacker Isaac Dotson returned to the field for the Cougars Saturday against Utah after missing the last four games with an undisclosed injury.
