Former state lawmaker and current congressional candidate Lisa Brown wed the policy adviser to the Spokane City Council this week.

Brown, who most recently served as chancellor of Washington State University Spokane, announced the nuptials to Brian McClatchey on Facebook on Tuesday. Brown said the couple met at a fundraiser for former Mayor Mary Verner and began dating about three years ago.

McClatchey began working for the Spokane City Council in April 2015. He provides legal advice and opinions on procedure and policy to the panel.

It is the first marriage for Brown, 61. The couple lives in the Kendall Yards neighborhood and were married in a small ceremony. Brown said a larger celebration is planned for next year, and that she was looking forward to married life after leaving her job at WSU Spokane to run for Congress.

“It’s the first time I haven’t had a paycheck since I was 15,” said Brown.
