SAN FRANCISCO – Riley Ornido scattered three hits over 7 2/3 innings to outduel Alek Jacob and San Francisco knocked Gonzaga out of first place in West Coast Conference baseball with a 1-0 win in the middle game of a three-game series.

Ornido (8-1) struck out seven and walked two. He escaped trouble in the ninth, coaxing a game-ending fielder’s choice with runners on first and third.

Jacob (3-4) allowed five hits and one earned run in eight innings, striking out six and walking one during his third complete game of the season.

The Dons broke through in the sixth. Jonathan Allen led off with a single to center and scored on Ross Puskarich’s two-out double down the right-field line.

The Dons (22-17, 11-6) remained tied for first place with Pepperdine, which also won Saturday.

The Zags dropped to 20-17, 10-7, tied for third with Loyola Marymount.
