Gonzaga-North Carolina key matchup: Cameron Johnson causes problems with size, shooting stroke

North Carolina presents several challenging matchups for the Zags, but we’ll highlight Cameron Johnson, a 6-foot-9, 210-pound guard who transferred to UNC after two-plus seasons at Pittsburgh.

Johnson joins 6-8 Luke Maye and 6-9 Garrison Brooks in the starting lineup. Those two will probably be guarded by Rui Hachimura and Brandon Clarke, which means 6-6 Corey Kispert or possibly Zach Norvell Jr. is likely to defend Johnson.

“We’ll try to play both ways (with big and small lineups) and see if we can find something that helps us,” UNC coach Roy Williams said.

Johnson leads UNC in points (15.7), 3-pointers (20), steals (12), 3-point percentage (44.4) and free-throw percentage (87.5). He’s a veteran of 108 career games and his size and agility make him tough to contain in the half-court and in transition.
