Boys basketball: Balanced scoring, tough defense leads Gonzaga Prep over Columbia Christian at Les Schwab Invitational

Sheadon Byrd scored 19 points to lead Gonzaga Prep to a 62-42 victory over Columbia Christian in the first round of the Les Schwab Invitational on Wednesday in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Gonzaga commit Anton Watson added 18 points, while Liam Lloyd scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Bullpups (7-1, 5-0).

Gonzaga Prep shot 53.1 percent from the floor, while holding the Knights to 36.4 percent overall. The Bullpups also forced 22 Columbia Christian turnovers.

Gonzaga Prep faces Lake Oswego at 4 p.m. on Thursday in the quarterfinals.

University 64, Stadium 51: Marcus Lenker scored 20 points, and the Titans (7-2) topped the Tigers (3-4) at the Franklin Tournament of Champions in Seattle. Logan Dreher added 10 points for the Titans.

Torrey Pines (CA) 85, Genesis Prep 57: Jonny Hillman led the Jaguars with 19 points, but Michael Pope scored 32 points to lead the Falcons to a win in the first round of the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic in San Diego.
