Jalen Burkett led five players in double figures with 18 points and North Idaho kept its East Region title hopes alive Wednesday with a 110-51 win over Blue Mountain in Northwest Athletic Conference play in Pendleton, Oregon.

The Cardinals shot 65 percent from the floor to improve to 20-7 overall and 10-4 in the East, one game behind Walla Walla with two games left in the regular season. NIC plays at Walla Walla on Saturday.

Tyler Brimhall added 17 points, Jarod Greene scored 15 and RayQuan Evans had eight assists for NIC.

The Timberwolves (4-21, 1-14) shot 26 percent from the floor.

Wenatchee Valley 82, CC Spokane 75: Justin Martin led five players in double figures with 18 points and the host Knights (16-10, 9-5 NWAC) shot 22 of 25 from the line in defeating the Sasquatch (19-8, 9-5).

The Knights’ Trevor Shurtliff hit 10 of 11 free throws and scored 14.

CCS’ Cesar Sandoval scored 21 points, hitting 9 of 13 from the floor, and had a game-best nine rebounds. The Sasquatch finished 2 for 5 from the line but hit 15 3-pointers.

Women’s basketball

North Idaho 84, Blue Mountain 48: Whitney Meier scored 20 points and Sydney Hovde added 17 points and a game-high nine rebounds to lead the Cardinals (18-8, 9-5 NWAC) past the Timberwolves (1-25, 0-15) in Pendleton, Oregon.

NIC’s Shae Logozzo came off the bench to score 18, hitting 7 of 8 from the line.

Wenatchee Valley 65, CC Spokane 47: Ashlynn Burgess scored 34 points, hitting 14 of 18 from the floor, and added 13 rebounds to lead the host Knights (15-12, 6-8 NWAC) past the Sasquatch (13-12, 4-10).

CCS’ Shania Graham hit 5 of 9 on 3-pointers and scored 19 points.

Women’s swimming

Idaho set a school record in the 800-yard freestyle relay and stands in second place after the opening day of the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Houston.

The team of Aileen Pannecoucke, Emma Schlyter, Sarah Hall and Leah Fisk finished the relay in 7 minutes, 20.19 seconds to beat the Vandals record by more than 1 second.

Idaho’s 107 points are 40 behind leader Northern Arizona.

• Washington State broke its school record in the 800 freestyle relay during the first day of the Pac-12 Championships in Federal Way, Washington. The team of Alba Fores, Rachel Thompson, Jasmine Margetts and Ryan Falk touched the wall in 7:12.87, beating the previous record by nearly 2 seconds. The Cougars stand in seventh place with 92 points.
