Two Montana men were arrested Friday morning in Coeur d’Alene after a driver reported shots fired during an apparent road-rage incident.

Officers responded at 3:30 a.m. to the intersection of Northwest Boulevard and Lakewood Drive and spoke to a motorist who reported the shots fired. The motorist was not injured but officers found marks indicating the vehicle had been struck by bullets, Detective Jared Reneau said in a news release.

Officers later located the suspect vehicle and detained three men after two of them made incriminating statements, Reneau wrote. Arrested were Kenneth C. Gieber, 20, of Polson, and 25-year-old Shawn K. Tate, of Missoula. Both were booked into jail on the charge of aggravated assault with a firearm.

Officers located a handgun and coins in the vehicle valued at about $25,000 that were later connected to a theft case in Montana. The third man from the suspect vehicle was interviewed and released, Reneau said.

Coeur d’Alene detectives will continue to work with their counterparts in Montana as the investigation proceeds, Reneau said.
