Coeur d’Alene man accused of raping 16-year-old

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man accused of rape and witness intimidation after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 16-year-old while she was incapacitated and threatened to hurt a witness.

According to court documents, the victim and a friend were smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol at Brady A. Matthews’ apartment on Monday night in Coeur d’Alene. The victim told deputies that when she woke up later, Matthews was raping her and her friend intervened. The next day, the victim told her grandmother and they called the authorities.

Deputies arrived at Matthews’ apartment to question him. After he refused to speak to them, the victim’s friend exited the apartment and told them Matthews had told her he would hurt her if she answered the door.

Later that night, deputies arrested Matthews for rape, witness intimidation, false imprisonment, obstructing an officer and delivery of a controlled substance.
