Police searching for stabbing suspect

The Spokane Valley Police Department is searching for a man suspected of stabbing his brother during an argument.

The stabbing victim told deputies that Kenneth J. Derr, 40, struck him on the head with a 2-foot-long pair of hedge trimmers and stabbed him in the arm in with a knife, according to a news release. Detectives said that during the attack, Kerr told the victim he wanted him to kill him. He also has said he wants to take his own life by provoking police into shooting him, detectives said.

According to the release, Derr is 6-foot-3, 190 pounds and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a gray shirt and brown sandles. Deputies say Derr, a convicted felon, is known to ride a mountain bike with a motor attached and has access to weapons.

Detectives say they would like Derr to surrender peacefully, but if anyone in the public sees him, they should call 911 or the Spokane Valley Crime Check number (509) 465-2233.
