NIC men beat Peninsula in OT for NWAC championship

RayQuan Evans notched 28 points and nine rebounds, and North Idaho rallied to defeat Peninsula 90-83 in the Northwest Athletic Conference Tournament championship game on Sunday at Everett Community College.

Austanti Potts-Woods added 23 points and seven boards off the bench for the Cardinals (25-8), who won the NWAC title for the first time.

The Cardinals overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to force overtime before pulling away in the extra frame. It was the Cardinals’ second OT win of the tournament after beating Everett in double overtime in the quarterfinals.

Iain McLaughlin chipped in 14 points for NIC.

Cameron Burton tallied 21 points to lead Peninsula (22-11). Colby Jackson added 14 points and eight rebounds and Trent Warren totaled 14 points and seven assists as all five Pirates starters scored in double figures.
