A familiar face and some familiar sketches will hit the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox stage this fall.

Spokane’s own Julia Sweeney will return to town to perform “Julia Sweeney: Older and Wider,” her new one-woman show, on Sept. 28.

The writer/actor/comedian/director/monologist was a cast member on “Saturday Night Live” from 1990-1995, popularizing the androgynous character Pat.

“Older and Wider” follows “God Said Ha!,” about her family health crises and her battle with cancer; “In the Family Way,” which was developed into the memoir “If It’s Not One Thing, It’s Your Mother”; and “Letting Go of God,” which was adapted into a film.

“I’ve always considered myself a comedic monologist, but it occurred to me that I was so close to doing stand-up that I should just take that step,” Sweeney said in a press release. “My show is observational and strewn with funny stories. I’m older and, yes, a wee bit wider, but I’m happy about it, and I think you’ll laugh and have a good time.”

On Nov. 14, some of the best sketches and songs from Chicago’s famed sketch and improv comedy troupe the Second City will come to Spokane.

Comedians Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carrell, Gilda Radner and Bill Murray have all passed through Second City’s doors since the theater opened in 1959.

Tickets for both shows go on sale on June 21 through the box office, online at www.foxtheaterspokane.org or by calling (509) 624-1200. Tickets for “Julia Sweeney: Older and Wider” are $33-$45. Tickets for “The Best of the Second City” are $30-$40.
