Police arrest man who held knife to his throat before leading deputies on car chase

Deputies arrested a man who held a knife to his throat before leading deputies on a car chase Wednesday night near Medical Lake in which he rammed a patrol car.

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Mark Gregory said the 27-year-old man , whose name was not released, was taken down by a K-9 unit when trying to flee the crash scene.

He was wanted in connection with a family-related auto theft and robbery, Gregory said.

Police scanner traffic indicated the chase started at about 8:15 p.m. near Thorpe and Craig roads and continued on state Route 902 before ending at its overpass at Interstate 90.

The man was transported to a local hospital with injuries from the encounter with the K-9 unit and his jump from a short side of the Route 902 overpass.

Gregory said one deputy also was taken to the hospital with minor injuries sustained when their patrol car was rammed.
