Two pilots flying into Spokane reported their planes were targeted by a laser pointer Thursday night.

Todd Woodard, spokesman for the Spokane International Airport, said the lasers were pointed at the planes at about 9:40 p.m. and 9:55 p.m.

The pilots reported the lasers to air traffic controllers, who alerted airport police. The airport police then interviewed the pilots to get the location that they suspected the lasers came from, Woodard said.

The airport reported the lasers to the Spokane Police Department, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and TSA.

Pointing lasers at planes or helicopters is hazardous and a felony under Washington State law.

Twice within three years, sheriff’s deputies arrested men who they say pointed a laser pointer at a sheriff’s office helicopter.
