Pat McCann will be Eastern Washington’s new wide receivers coach, the 33-year-old Olympia native confirmed Thursday.

He replaces Jay Dumas, who recently stepped down after two seasons at EWU.

McCann spent the last two seasons as Northern Iowa’s receivers coach, a position he also held at UC Davis in 2016.

He was the Panthers’ offensive coordinator in the first and second rounds of the FCS playoffs last season, when play-caller John Bond was absent because of a family matter.

McCann starred at Olympia High and finished his college career at Western Washington, where he was an all-conference receiver in 2008, the NCAA Division II program’s final season before disbanding.

Dumas is the fourth EWU assistant to leave Aaron Best’s staff following the Eagles’ run to the FCS national title game last season.

Former EWU offensive coordinator Bodie Reeder accepted the same position at North Texas and was replaced by former Central Washington head coach Ian Shoemaker.

Jeff Schmedding, EWU’s former defensive coordinator, is now coaching linebackers and special teams at Boise State. He was replaced internally by associate head coach Eti Ena.

Former cornerbacks coach Cherokee Valeria left for Sacramento State, where he now coaches the Hornets’ secondary.
