HILLSBORO, Ore. – Ricky Vanasco allowed just one hit over six scoreless innings as the Spokane Indians defeated the Hillsboro Hops 9-0 Friday night in a matchup of Northwest League division leaders.

Vanasco (2-0), a right-hander, walked two and struck out 10. The only hit he allowed was Steven Leyton’s infield single with one out in the sixth. The comebacker went off Vanasco’s glove and toward second baseman Kenen Irizarry, who was unable to throw out the runner.

The Indians, who snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory in the series opener Thursday, won for just the third time in their past 11 games.

Spokane broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning as Jake Hoover doubled with one out, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Irizarry’s sacrifice fly.

The Indians scored twice more in the fourth on triples by Blaine Crim and Jonah McReynolds and a run-scoring single by Obie Ricumstrict.

Spokane extended its lead to 8-0 with a five-run fifth, the key hit being Luis Asuncion’s two-run single.

Asuncion’s sacrifice fly brought home the final run in the ninth.

Spokane right-hander Billy Layne Jr. pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit, and Triston Polley worked a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts to cap the two-hit shutout.
