Schweitzer Mountain Resort has announced plans to build a state-of-the-art boutique hotel to provide more lodging for visitors.

“On busy weekends and holidays, it’s been challenging for us to offer enough accommodation in the village for our guests,” Schweitzer CEO Tom Chassesaid in a statement released Monday. “This new hotel will not only do that, but will also provide our guests with an enhanced experience and easy access to all that Schweitzer has to offer on a year round basis.”

The 30-unit “ski-in/ski-out” boutique hotel, which will be adjacent to the existing Selkirk Lodge, will feature views of Lake Pend Oreille, a 50-seat restaurant and bar, an outdoor patio with a fire pit on the north end of the building and space for corporate and social events, such as retreats, family reunions, weddings and private gatherings.

The hotel also will include a small coworking space, exercise area, communal living room and additional underground parking for guests of the hotel and Selkirk Lodge.

Schweitzer Mountain Resort declined to comment on the project cost.

Portland-based Skylab Architecture is designing the hotel, which will be built with cross-laminated timber.

Spokane-based Walker Construction began excavating the future hotel site in June. It is slated for completion in fall 2020.

The new hotel is part of Schweitzer Mountain Resort’s master development plan that was finalized this year. Phase one of the plan began this summer with installation of two ski lifts –the Cedar Park Express and Colburn Triple – that replaced the Snow Ghost double chair serving the north bowl on the mountain.

Schweitzer Mountain Resort and Skylab have partnered with Denver-based Dunn + Kiley, an internationally recognized master planning and landscape architecture firm, to improve landscape architecture around the hotel and within the resort’s existing village.

Schweitzer Mountain Resort is privately owned and operated, with more than 7,000 acres of property. The resort plans to add more lifts, a new mountain ski area and future real estate projects during the next 10 years.
