Minor League Report: Thursday’s Northwest League and Texas Rangers affiliate results

Northwest League

Tri-City 6, Spokane 3: Carlos Luis went 3 for 5 with a run and the visiting Dust Devils (7-7) swept a three-game Northwest League series against the Indians (9-5) at Avista Stadium on Thursday.

Indians starter Jen-Ho Tseng lasted three batters and 11 pitches – just three strikes – before leaving the game with “discomfort.” Tseng was twice the Chicago Cubs minor league pitcher of the year but was released by the Cubs during spring training.

Kellen Strahm went 2 for 5 with two RBIs for Spokane.

Boise 3, Eugene 1: Aaron Schunk went 1 for 3 with a two-run home run and the Hawks (6-8) beat the visiting Emeralds (7-7). Isaac Collins went 2 for 3 with two runs out of the leadoff spot and Jeffri Ocando allowed one run over five innings for Boise. Jake Slaughter homered for Eugene.

Salem-Keizer 4, Hillsboro 2: Harrison Freed homered, Ricardo Genoves drove in two and the Volcanoes (9-5) beat the visiting Hops (8-6). Jesus Ozoria allowed two runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings for the win.

Everett 7, Vancouver 1: Billy Cooke and Carter Bins hit home runs and the AquaSox (7-7) handled the Canadians (3-11). Cesar Izturis, Jr. went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for Everett. Sam Tuivailala, on a rehab assignment from the Seattle Mariners, pitched a scoreless inning with a strikeout. Prospect Juan Then, acquired by the Mariners in a trade for Edwin Encarnacion from the New York Yankees, struck out seven over five scoreless innings.

Texas Rangers affiliates

Nashville (AAA) 3, Memphis 2: Scott Heineman went 2 for 3 with an RBI and the visiting Sounds (34-45) edged the Redbirds (33-47) in a Pacific Coast League game. Andy Ibanez went 2 for 3 with a run and starter Wes Benjamin allowed two runs on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts over five innings for Nashville.

Frisco (AA): Off for Texas League All-Star Game.

Down East (High-A) 7, Lynchburg 0: J.P. Martinez went 3 for 3 with an RBI, Sam Huff homered and the Wood Ducks (55-23) blanked the Hillcats (36-39) in a Carolina League game. Martinez is hitting .353 over his last 10 games and Huff’s homer was his sixth with Down East. Curtis Terry went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Sal Mendez allowed five hits and two walks with four strikeouts over five innings.

Hickory (Low-A) 1, Columbia 0: Tim Brennan struck out five over eight innings and the visiting Crawdads (48-26) edged the Fireflies (28-46) in a South Atlantic League game. Brennan allowed four hits and did not walk a batter to run his record to 7-2. Frainyer Chavez went 2 for 3 with a double and scored on a double play in the fifth inning.
