The Spokane Valley Fire Department responded Monday evening to a commercial fire at the Spokane Industrial Park after a Powdertech employee smelled smoke inside a building.

Firefighters saw smoke coming off the roof of the building on North Sullivan Road when they arrived shortly after 7 p.m., bringing a total of 13 fire vehicles and support from Spokane County Fire District 9, according to a news release. Powdertech provides custom sandblasting, painting and powder-coating services, according to its website.

Sprinklers in the building activated, keeping the fire contained to an area around two ovens, a news release said. The fire appeared to originate from a pallet and metal containers on top of the larger of the two ovens, resulting in abundant smoke.

Battalion Chief Jeff Bordwell said he anticipated Powdertech would be back in business soon, he wrote in the release.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
