If watching the other skaters isn’t enough entertainment for you, on Saturday you also can watch Disneynature’s “Penguins” while at Riverfront Park’s ice ribbon.

The movie will be shown on a 22-foot inflatable screen. Skaters will be able to see it from anywhere on the ribbon, said Jill Reeves, a community engagement manager for Riverfront Park.

Add to that the fact that admission and skate rental are half price through March 1 – the last day the ribbon will be open for the season – and “right now is a great time to come down and check it out,” Reeves said.

Skating isn’t the only thing for families to do at the park. The Looff Carrousel and SkyRide are open daily 11 a.m.-6 p.m. (until 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays) – though the SkyRide will be closed a few days next week for maintenance.

The Carrousel also hosts storytime on the third Friday of the month September through May, and children who attend get one ride free. Carrousel rides are $3 or $6.50 for a day pass. The SkyRide is $9.75 for teens and adults, $6.75 for children 3 to 12 and free for 2 and younger.

For evening family time, the Pavilion light show starts at sunset on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The show is free and ends at 10 p.m.

Providing free and low-cost programming for families is one of the primary initiatives of the park, Reeves said.

“We’re just trying to get parents and kids down here just to enjoy the park,” she said.
