George Floyd mural vandalized in downtown Spokane
A mural honoring George Floyd in downtown Spokane was vandalized Thursday night.
The mural, painted by Spokane artist Daniel Lopez on the side of Shacktown Community Cycle last week, was defaced with white paint covering the face of Floyd as well as the face of a protester depicted in the artwork.
When reached by phone, Shacktown Community Cycle owner Roger Hernandez said the vandalism is unfortunate because Lopez worked hard to create the piece.
Lopez was not immediately available for comment.
Hernandez said the shop’s hard drive was corrupted for its camera system, so unfortunately, they were unable capture any footage of the vandals.
Shacktown Community Cycle has set up a PayPal donation account to help cover the cost of an updated camera system, according to its Facebook page.
