Man critically injured in crash with truck pulling tug boat near CdA Airport

A head-on collision between a truck towing a tug boat and a small car near the Coeur d’Alene Airport left one in critical condition Wednesday.

Just after 4 p.m., Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Northern Lakes Fire District crews responded to Huetter Road and Orchard Avenue.

The driver of the truck was unharmed, while the driver of the car was taken to Kootenai Health hospital with severe injuries. He was last reported in critical condition, according to a sheriff’s office news release. The injured man’s name is being withheld until family is notified, the sheriff’s office said.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing but charges have yet to be filed and alcohol does not appear to be a factor, the sheriff’s office said.

A power pole was damaged during the crash, causing a small power outage, but Avista Utilities arrived on scene shortly after the crash. Power has since been restored to the area.
