Sullivan Sites Closed

Camping

Big improvements are under way at Sullivan Lake campground, Forest Service officials say. But construction will close some of the campsites for most of the summer.

Beginning Wednesday, the 10 sites in the west campground will be closed except during Down River Days, July 28-31, and Labor Day holiday, Aug. 31-Sept. 4.

The 38 sites at the east campground will remain open through Oct. 1 except for one week yet to be announced. Info: (509) 446-7500.

Reservations can be made a minimum of 10 days in advance at many Forest Service campgrounds throughout the country. Operators work 9 a.m.-9 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. weekends (Eastern time). Call (800) 280-2267. Have a credit card handy and expect to use your speed-dial for several minutes to get through.

Thousand Trails, a membership campground network, is offering a one-time introductory offer that allows campers to enjoy any of its 62 campgrounds in the United States and British Columbia free, Monday through Thursday on a space available basis. Info: (800) 759-1000.
