The public is invited to take part in Temple Beth Shalom’s 55th annual traditional kosher dinner on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the temple, 1322 E. 30th.

The dinner features authentic, customary and kosher dishes.

A host of musical entertainment will coincide with the festive, culinary event.

Entertainment includes: Israeli songs, Israeli dances, Jewish folk songs, traditional Yiddish songs, a performance by Spokane’s only klezmer orchestra and selections from “Fiddler on the Roof.”

Church, children and violence

The Spokane Council of Ecumenical Ministries will present a discussion on “The Church’s Commitment to Children Living in a World of Violence” during its annual meeting Tuesday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 24th and Grand Boulevard.

The meeting’s keynote speaker is the Rev. Elizabeth Stellas of the Center for the Prevention of Sexual and Domestic Violence.

Panelists include: Dr. John Caputo, professor of communications at Gonzaga University; Mary Ann Murphy, manager of the Deaconess Regional Center for Child Abuse and Neglect; Sue Hille, coordinator of the Spokane Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Center; the Rev. John Olson of the Spokane Council of Ecumenical Ministries; and Ann Price, council chair and panel moderator.

Annual Spring Aglow retreat

The annual three-day spring retreat for the Northeast Washington-North Idaho area of Women’s Aglow Fellowship gets under way on March 24 at Templin’s Resort in Post Falls.

An Aglow retreat is a chance for women of many denominations to come together to worship and praise God.

The theme of this year’s retreat is “I came that they may have and enjoy life and have it in abundance.”

Marigold Cheshier, a widely traveled inspirational speaker and singer, will serve as the retreat’s guest speaker.

Silent auction

A silent auction will be held on Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar, to raise money for a mission trip to Tijuana, Mexico.

Seventy students and 19 leaders from First Presbyterian will embark on April 1 on a weeklong mission to Mexico to build seven homes for families without adequate shelter.

The money is needed for building supplies and materials.

Auction items will be theme baskets. Bidding will be as low as $30.

Sunday’s auction lasts from 7-9 p.m.
