The Slice Get Ready For Those Talks About Sewers

We’ve looked into our crystal ball…and we see Spangle turning into Spokane’s fastest-growing suburb.

Swimsuits with staying power: “My mother-in-law (Catherine McGinn) has been wearing the same swimsuit since I can remember - I met her in 1964,” wrote Chris McGinn. “She’s 92 - still swimming - and I’m still jealous of her great legs.”

Betty Hill still gets use out of a suit she bought while in Austria in 1973.

And Lisa Hughes still has the lime green suit she wore back in 1974, when she first met her husband. “I put it on once a year to remind him why he noticed me,” she said.

But Sheryl DuHaime said there’s no secret to making a swimsuit last. “Buy one that is too big or too small,” she said. “Then all you can do is look at it and hope you can gain or lose enough weight to get into it.”

Youth sports: “Parents. Mere mention of the word makes many coaches cringe.” - from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Agree or disagree: The widely held belief that women have a broader, more interesting definition of what constitutes a good-looking member of the opposite sex is a myth.

Watch for an increase in marital discord: Cigars supposedly are making a big comeback.

The experience factor: “Never underestimate lifers in office politics. We’ve seen bosses rise and fall, and we know where the careers are buried.” - from The Boston Globe

We’d like to see: Pullman’s Bernard Bobb, a knowledgeable fan of Big Band music, have his own radio show.

Overheard at Pier 1: (Mother to her excited little daughter.) “OK, now what would you like to touch?” - submitted by Jerry McGinn

She’s not alone: Betty Corkery loves to read the personal ads. “Sick sense of humor,” she explained.

Don’t forget: To send The Slice a postcard from your summer vacation.

Today’s Slice question: On a daily basis, what Spokane area household makes the most long-distance calls?

MEMO: The Slice appears Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Write The Slice at P.O. Box 2160, Spokane, WA 99210; call (509) 459-5470; fax (509) 459-5098.
