Guns, Game Topics In Women’s Workshop

Hunting

After hearing rave reviews from last year’s first “Women in Hunting Workshop,” the Idaho Fish and Game Department has doubled the size of the event scheduled this year for Sept. 30 in Coeur d’Alene.

An all-women team of instructors will take 50 women through the basics of firearms safety, hunting, shooting skills, first aid, survival and hunter ethics.

The workshop is sponsored by the department along with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Idaho State Bowhunters and local businesses.

About 5 percent of Idaho’s hunting licenses are sold to women even though women are often more capable shooters than men, said Pete Gardner, Fish and Game hunter safety coordinator.

“Conservation officers report that women they see in the field are well prepared and citations are rare,” he said.

Women who complete the clinic will have another outdoor experience to share with their children, as well as a chance to put game meat on the dinner table, he said.

To register for the workshop, call the Fish and Game Department regional office in Coeur d’Alene, 769-1414.
