Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Many food products are packaged to be tamperproof. But jellies, jams and peanut butter are not.

While shopping, I have seen people take these jars from the shelf, remove the lid, taste the product with a jab of their finger, replace the lid and put it back on the shelf.

How can some of these products escape without a safety shield? - Pat Byram, Springfield, Mo.

I don’t know, and if I saw someone do this, I’d pick the jar up and hand it to the manager with an explanation. How gross! - Heloise Dear Heloise: Apply nonstick cooking spray to plastic wrap or foil. Then wrap iced desserts.

The spray will prevent icing from sticking when unwrapped. - Pat Kielty, Laredo, Texas
