The Slice Do Bathtubs Have Anything To Do With Bad-Hair Days?

This happened years ago. But it remains a family favorite.

Hope, Idaho’s Darlene Ponack was lifting her son into a barber chair when the boy was asked “Which side does your mother part your hair?”

The lad thought about it, then answered: “The side toward the bathtub.”

On second thought: Several readers questioned the wisdom of our Bird Nest Photo Contest. “Stupid” is how one described it.

We had reminded everyone not to disturb the nests. But more than one caller pointed out that some birds become highly stressed if anyone even gets near their nests.

Well, we’re not calling off the contest. But we promise that the grand prize, the loon book, won’t be awarded for an extreme close-up.

So please, keep your distance.

The deadline is still June 11.

More Canadian flags than Spokane: Buffalo, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and about a dozen places in Florida were among the cities readers mentioned.

A woman who named her cat Taylor after a member of Duran Duran wonders: How many Spokane area pets were named after celebrities who are now has-beens?

There’s a special place reserved in hell for Inland Northwest residents who: “Complain about the cold in the winter and complain about the heat in the summer.” - Lenny Long

“…Don’t stop for pedestrians in crosswalks or use turn signals.” - Melanie Sargent

“…Run red lights.” - Ellen Schwankert and many others.

Other noted offenses ranged from dumping trash in the lakes to not taking down yard sale signs.

How many of your co-workers would you stop to pick up if you saw them stranded by the side of the road: “None,” wrote Linda Willard. “The walk would do them good.”
