Post Falls Places Third In Idaho State Contest

The Post Falls High School Scholastic Bowl Tournament Team defeated Boise High School for third place in the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratories competition which was held recently at Albertson College in Caldwell.

Post Falls, which had qualified for state for the fifth time, placed fourth in two previous competitions.

Team members are: Anna Zemke, a senior and third year all-star team pick; Jack Caughran, a junior and team captain; Seth Gibbon, senior; Andy Marcy, freshman; Katy Hill, senior; Jared Kelsey, junior; Matt Labrum, senior; and Greg Berg, coach.

Cristy Campbell, Post Falls High School senior has been named the Post Falls Rotary Student of the Month for March. Campbell is the daughter of Sue and Matt Durtschi, and Dave and Janelle Campbell, all of Post Falls.

Campbell, who is currently class president and maintains a 3.75 grade-point-average, participates in track and cross country and is a six-year band member.

Campbell was first runner-up in the Post Falls Jr. Miss Program and has been featured in Who’s Who Among American High School students.

She plans to attend North Idaho College for two years and transfer to a four-year college for a bachelors degree in communications or business management.

Lakes Middle School instrumental music students recently placed in the District One Solo Ensemble Festival in Moscow.

Winners were: Josh Smith, excellent, alto sax solo; Jeff Smith, excellent, trombone solo; Dale Harvey, excellent, rudimental drum solo; Jessica Sterner, excellent, trumpet solo; Ashley Sasser, and Jessica Brunner, excellent, violin duet.

The Lakes Quartet, excellent, with Jessica Brunner, first violin, Ann Douglas, second violin, Mellisa Roadifer, viola, and Alex Denny, cello.

Alex Denny, excellent, cello solo; Nick Rau, superior, tenor sax solo; and Kelli Kline, two superiors, flute solos.

The Lakes Quintet, superior, with Alex Denny, first violin, Jennine Johnson, second violin, Chad Longo, viola, Autumn Hansen, cello, and Ethan Haberman, bass.

Students received grades of superior, excellent, good, fair or poor.
