French A La Frieda

Few things are as frustrating for the home cook as trying to make the finicky French pancakes called crepes.

Pouring the batter thin enough, cooking them until browned but not burned and getting them out of the pan in one piece is enough to make anyone start speaking some French, if you catch our drift.

Fortunately, Frieda’s of California supplies packaged crepes ready to be filled or topped with such savory mixtures as an asparagus saute, or such sweeter treats as the strawberries that are starting to show up in stores.

Price: About $4.50 for 10 (9-inch) crepes.

Available: In Spokane at Super 1 Foods, and occasionally at some Rosauers supermarkets.
