The Little Spokane River Natural Area has been a boon to the Washington Fish and Wildlife Department in more ways than one.

The natural area precludes housing projects on a seven-mile stretch of the lower river. With all that wildness to enjoy, a young moose has taken up residence for the past few weeks in the stretch downstream from Indian Painted Rocks.

And tranquilizer guns haven’t been needed to rid him from traffic.
