Donald Miller Moses Lake

Graveside service for Donald Francis Miller, 73, will be at 10 a.m. today at Enumclaw (Wash.) Memorial Cemetery. Kayser’s Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Enterprise, Ore., Mr. Miller died Friday.

He graduated from Enterprise High School and the Bradley School of Horology.

In 1946 he married Zola Patten and they opened Miller’s Jewelry in Enumclaw. Mr. Miller served on the Enumclaw city council, as the Chamber of Commerce president, a Cub Scout master and as mayor from 1970 to 1974.

His wife died in 1981.

Mr. Miller later married Margaret Bear and moved to Moses Lake. He and his wife opened Miller’s Fine Jewelers in 1989.

Mr. Miller was a member of the Grant County Horse Association, the Downtown Business Association, served as president and was a committee member of the American Gem Society, the Northwest Guild, and was a registered jeweler with the American Gem Society and a board member for Pacific Northwest Jewelers.

He received the 1997 Retail Jeweler Hall of Fame Award, presented by the Pacific Northwest Jewelers.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Karen Bach of Issaquah, Wash., and Patti Poe of Enumclaw; a stepdaughter, Patti Youngblood of Moses Lake; a stepson, Jeff Bear of Hauser Lake, Idaho; two brothers, Bernard Miller of Sheridan, Ore., and Mryl Miller of Virginia Beach, Va.; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Virginia Woods Spokane

Visitation for Virginia Woods, 70, will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Riverside Memorial Park.

Born in England, Mrs. Woods died Saturday.

She married Leonard Woods in 1944 and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Woods had lived in Spokane for 51 years.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Lorraine Berarducci and Rita Herwig, both of Spokane; three brothers, Geoff Valco of South Africa, and Victor and George Valco of England; a sister, Veronica Yearsley of England; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Terry Leslie Spokane

A memorial gathering for Terry J. Leslie, 48, will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Comstock Room at the YWCA.

Ms. Leslie, who was born in Vancouver, Wash., died Wednesday.

She graduated from of North Central High School and received a physical education degree from Eastern Washington University.

Ms. Leslie worked for the Bayer Corporation for 23 years.

Survivors include her partner, Rose Sausser of Spokane; a daughter, Stacey Mohney of Spokane; her parents, Wilfred and Audrey Leslie of Spokane; and two brothers, Wayne and Randy Leslie, both of Spokane.

Daniel Deshon II Sandpoint

Visitation for Daniel Albert Deshon II, 80, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon today at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel. Service will follow at 2 p.m. at the chapel in Sandpoint. Burial will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint.

Mr. Deshon, who was born in North Dakota, died Thursday.

He moved to Sandpoint in 1931 and graduated from Sandpoint High School.

Mr. Deshon served with the Civilian Conservation Corps before serving with the Army during World War II.

He later owned Bargain Supply in Sandpoint from 1944 to 1982 and Emerald Maintenance from 1962 to 1992.

Mr. Deshon was a member of the Sandpoint Rotary Club, the Elks and Eagles lodges and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa; two sons, Dan Deshon III of Sandpoint and Richard Deshon of Spokane; a daughter, Cheryl Paton of Spokane; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Donald Bruce Tekoa, Wash.

Service for Donald E. Bruce, 77, is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Farmington, Wash. Burial will follow at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Tensed, Idaho, Mr. Bruce died Sunday.

He graduated from Farmington High School and farmed between Tekoa and Tensed.

In 1956, he married Betty Farrell.

Mr. Bruce is survived by his wife of 41 years; a daughter, Kathleen Brown of Spangle; a son, Tim Bruce of LaConner, Wash.; two stepsons, Doug Farrell of St. Maries and Dan Farrell of Cheney, Wash.; two brothers, Lawrence Bruce of Spokane and Albert Bruce, Jr. of Farmington; two sisters, Lenora Nelson of Tekoa and Evelyn Crowe of Spokane; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Leonard Zagelow Spokane

A private service for Leonard P. Zagelow was held.

Born in Odessa, Wash., Mr. Zagelow died July 29.

He was a graduate of Washington State University and the University of Minnesota.

Mr. Zagelow joined the Army in 1937 and served during World War II in the Pacific and during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He worked as chief of the Medical Service Corps from 1957 to 1960. He retired in 1967 and moved to Spokane.

Mr. Zagelow received the Legion of Merit and the Air Force Commendation Medal while in the service.

He was a member of the Manito Golf and Country Club, the Empire Club, the Spokane Cougar Club, the Washington State University Alumni Association, the Masonic Lodge, the El Katif Shrine Temple and the American Pharmaceutical Association.

His wife, Frances (Schnur), died in 1979.

He is survived by a son.

Frank Osso Spokane

Funeral Mass for Frank L. Osso, 87, was Monday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial followed at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Osso, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

He worked for H.J. Heinz and retired in 1963 as a warehouseman.

Mr. Osso was a member of St. Aloysius Parish, Eagles Lodge No. 2, the Spokane Police Guild and the Disabled American Veterans.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose.

Survivors include a son, Patrick Osso of Spokane; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

David Brown Spokane

Memorial service for David A. Brown, 78, was Monday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

Born in Dishman, Mr. Brown died Thursday.

He was a World War II veteran and had operated Dishman Jewelers.

Survivors include four sons, Ken and Jerry Brown, both of Anderson, Ind., and Jeff and Chris Brown, both of Spokane; four daughters, Jeanne Rodgers and Karen Watson, both of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Joanne Hunley and Shirley Nowka, both of Spokane; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Neil Armstrong Spokane

Graveside service for Neil Albert Armstrong, 67, was Monday at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Armstrong, who was born in Lewiston, died Friday.

He worked as an insurance auditor and was a resident of Spokane for 10 years.

Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Webster of Spokane and Beverly Tiplady of Medical Lake.

William Lawrence Diamond Lake, Wash.

Graveside service for William “Bill” Arthur Lawrence, 39, was Monday at the Newport (Wash.) Cemetery.

Born in Brockton, Mass., Mr. Lawrence died July 24.

He was a 12-year Diamond Lake resident and was a disabled veteran from the Vietnam era. He had served in the Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Brandi; a son, Chad Welch of Deer Park; his parents, William and Alfreda Lawrence of Boston; and a brother, Chris Lawrence of Boston.

Alma Tosh Spokane

Service for Alma M. Tosh, 86, will be at noon Wednesday at the Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, Calif.

Mrs. Tosh, a 20-year Spokane resident, died Thursday.

She was born in Royse City, Texas, and worked as a seamstress.

She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Luttrell of Spokane; two sisters in Texas; six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Robert Austin Mercer Island, Wash.

Memorial service for Robert W. Austin, 82, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church. Acacia, Forkner and Home Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Seattle, Mr. Austin died Thursday.

He was a graduate of North Central High School and Washington State University.

Mr. Austin married Jean Ward in 1941 and entered the military, where he was an infantry officer and helped train troops for combat.

They moved to Seattle, where he was a heavy construction contractor. He was a prime contractor on Ice Harbor Dam, The Dalles Dam, John Day Dam and the Umatilla Bridge.

Mr. Austin was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, Mountain Pacific Chapter of the Associated General Contractors, the American Arbitration Association, the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, Rainier Club and Broadmoor Golf Club. He was also founding member, trustee and benefactor of the Washington State University Foundation.

In 1987 he received the Weldon B. Gibson Distinguished Volunteer Service award.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sue Kincaid of Redmond, Ore.; two sons, Rob and Jim Austin, both of Mercer Island; and six grandchildren.

Helen Deeds Spokane

Service for Helen M. Deeds, 84, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Deeds, who died Thursday, was born in Rosalia, Wash.

She was a homemaker and a member of Foothills Community Church and the Orchard Prairie Homemakers Club.

Her husband, Robert Deeds, died in 1975.

Survivors include a daughter, Arlene Walch, and a son, Jerry Dormaier, both of Spokane; five granddaughters and 10 great-grandchildren.
