Huge ‘Star Wars’ Haul Surprises Lucas

From Wire Reports

George Lucas, creator of “Star Wars,” bet in an office pool that the reissue of his film would earn $10 million last weekend. He lost. It took in $36.2 million.

“I am flabbergasted, just flabbergasted,” Lucas said. “It’s a 20-year-old movie. I just did not expect this to happen.”

The film’s total box-office take is now at $358 million, the second-highest gross ever, behind “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.”
