Twenty-four hours each day, 365 days each year, the air traffic controllers at Spokane International Airport, Felts Field and Fairchild Air Force Base provide an extraordinary service to citizens of the Inland Empire. All flights are direct or indirect beneficiaries of separation and control services provided by this group of dedicated men and women.

The Federal Aviation Administration operates the Spokane International tower with jurisdiction over some of the nation’s most complicated airspace.

Using the latest in radar and communication equipment, the air traffic controllers guide pilots safely through a maze of mountains and intersecting flight paths.

In addition to providing these services, controllers must maintain constant vigilance in order to detect and act immediately and effectively in case of an emergency.

Each of us, whether or not we’re pilots or passengers in aircraft, benefits from the services provided by air traffic controllers. Air ambulances, mail, cargo and military flights are all transported safely from departure to destination thanks in large measure to Spokane’s air traffic controllers. They are Everyday Heroes in the truest sense.
