Novice Canoe Classes

Paddle sports

Two beginners canoeing classes - one for flatwater and one for river paddling - are set to begin in June, sponsored by the Spokane Canoe and Kayak Club.

The flatwater course, which deals with basic canoeing equipment, techniques and safety, is set for June 7.

The flatwater class is a prerequisite for the river clinic on June 12-13 and June 21-22. The river clinic uses evening lectures and on-the-water practice to cover safety, skills for handling moving water, eddy turns, ferrying, river rescue and running Class I and II rapids.

Cost is $20 per tandem canoe for the flatwater class and $60 per boat for the river clinic. Participants must become club members.

Info: Larry Wood, 534-7788, Jerry Cesaratto, 796-4211, or Megan Rolland, 467-7967.

Clinics for solo canoeing and basic rescue are scheduled by the Spokane Canoe and Kayak club in July and August. , DataTimes
