Alan Jones Sextet At Hobart’s Tonight

Hobart’s Jazz Lounge at Cavanaugh’s Fourth Avenue will present the Alan Jones Sextet in concert tonight from 8 to midnight.

The sextet, headed by Northwest native Alan Jones, typically draws standing room-only crowds when it plays in its hometown of Portland.

Members of the group have played with such stars as Lionel Hampton, Woody Herman and Tony Bennett. Group members include Jones on drums, alto saxophonist Warren Rand, trumpet player Paul Mazzio, tenor saxophonist John Gross, pianist Randy Porter, and Dan Schulte on bass.

Dan Deprez of Willamette Week calls the group’s music “fluid and relaxed, anything but lethargic … Jones’ drumming swings incessantly and is almost dizzying it it’s variety.”

“The energy is extreme, there is never a lethargic moment,” says Zan Stewart of the Los Angeles Times.

Admission to the concert is $6.
