Cornucopia of films comes to Spokane

Moviegoing should be a rich experience over the next seven days, what with today’s openings, two sneak previews on the weekend, a couple of midnight offerings, a special concert film on Tuesday and as many as four possible openings on Wednesday.

Here’s what movie fans can expect:

Tonight

“National Treasure”: Nicolas Cage tries to protect an ancient treasure by stealing the Declaration of Independence (NorthTown Mall, River Park Square, Spokane Valley Mall, Showboat cinemas).

“The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie”: The slightly crude cartoon character seeks King Neptune’s crown (NorthTown Mall, River Park Square, Spokane Valley Mall, Coeur d’Alene cinemas).

Best of Banff Mountain Film Festival: First day of the three- day festival of award-winning outdoor films (7 p.m., The Met).

Sneak previews

“Finding Neverland”: Johnny Depp plays J.M. Barrie in this look at the man who created the character of Peter Pan (7:30 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday, NorthTown Mall, River Park Square, Spokane Valley Mall and Coeur d’Alene cinemas).

“Christmas with the Kranks”: Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis play the title characters, a couple facing neighborhood resentment because they decide to skip their traditional Christmas celebration (7 p.m. Saturday, NorthTown Mall Cinemas).

Special showings

“Aerosmith”: This concert film features all of the rock band’s hits made over its 30-year career (7 p.m. Tuesday, NorthTown Mall Cinemas).

“Back to the Future”: Robert Zemeckis’ 1985 film about a boy (Michael J. Fox) who goes back in time to save his parents’ marriage (midnight tonight and Saturday, Garland Theatre).

“Maniac”: A doctor’s assistant kills him and then takes his place (midnight Saturday, CenterStage).

“The Yes Men”: A hilarious documentary about two guys pretending to be representatives of the World Trade Organization (3, 5:30, 8 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, The Met).

Opening Wednesday

“Alexander”: Oliver Stone wrote and directed this look at the Macedonian conqueror, played by Irish actor Colin Farrell (NorthTown Mall, River Park Square, Spokane Valley Mall, Showboat cinemas).

“Christmas with the Kranks”: see above.

“Enduring Love” (tentative): Following a freak accident, one survivor (Daniel Craig) finds himself stalked by another (Rhys Ifans) (River Park Square Cinemas).

“Finding Neverland” (tentative): see above.
