Jon Voight joins ‘24’ as terrorist mastermind

Oscar winner Jon Voight has signed on to play the nemesis to Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer on the upcoming seventh season of “24,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The trade paper says that Voight’s character – the man apparently behind the new season’s terrorist threat – will be introduced in the two-hour “24” prequel set to premiere this November and currently shooting in South Africa.

The new season is set to begin in January. Because much of the first half was already shot last year before the writers strike, Voight’s character may not be featured heavily until the second half of the season.

Voight’s career began on the small screen, but this will be his first extended series gig in more than 40 years.

An Oscar winner for “Coming Home,” the “Midnight Cowboy” star is probably best known to mainstream viewers from his performances in “Transformers” and the “National Treasure” movies.
