Achievements: Two airmen finish basic training

The following local residents recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Air Force Airman Krysta Mende graduated from Columbia Basin Secondary School in Moses Lake and is the daughter of Dale Mende of Moses Lake and Belinda Carvalho of Spokane.

Air Force Airman Mary Weishaar is the daughter of Kathleen Olsen of Chewelah, Wash., and James Weishaar of Stanwood, Wash. She is a 2007 graduate of Cascade High School in Everett.

“Army Pfc. Rashad Sacah graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga. He is a 2003 graduate of University High School.

“Army 2nd Lt. Caleb Newbill graduated from the Army basic officer leader course at Fort Benning in Columbus. He is the son of Dale Newbill of Otis Orchards and Vicky Newbill of Tukwila, Wash. He graduated from Central Valley School in 2003.

“Army National Guard Spec. Michael Manuel graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He graduated in 1998 from East Valley High School.

“The University of Portland recently announced local students named to the spring semester dean’s list. Students are listed by their hometowns.

Spokane: Amalia Allers, Jessica Anderson, Melissa Arte, Kara Caparoso, Tara Cronin, Ashley Donahoo, Heather Douglas, Rebecca Doyle, Leslie Eddy, Melissa Goodner, Danielle Jolicoeur, Katelen Kellogg, Maya Kohls-Chase, Kathleen Lynch, Anne Maloney, Patricia O’Brien, Meghan Struss.

“Eastern Washington University awarded the following students scholarships for the 2008-09 academic year.

Brittani Christ was awarded a Rob and Randi Nielson Scholarship for $1,125. She is the daughter of Chuck and Colleen Christ of Spokane and a graduate of North Central High School.

Megan Brandkamp received a $2,500 Scholastic Honors Scholarship. She is the daughter of Chris and Lynne Brandkamp of Colbert and is homeschooled.
